Greetings to my fellow readers! I'm happy to announce that I'll be making tier lists for the renowned heroes of FEH, and what better way to start off than Legendary units? Make sure to check out these posts regularly as they will be updated occasionally when a new unit releases or as some of them show their age.
I'm going for the Earth Legendary units first because it's the latest season to have a unit this year. This one is arguably the weakest for Arena, as many units are focused on their combat potential, and tend to get outclassed after a short while.
Criteria:
I will be ranking these units based on their overall performance in several game modes, including Aether Raids, Summoner Duels, and especially Arena as they can increase your scoring. As mentioned, the rankings for each unit will change consistently according to the meta, so tier lists like this are not truly conclusive. Also, I will rank them based on their unique abilities and potential for more strategies.
So without further ado, let's go straight into my explanation for each tier.
Tier Explanation:
Tier 1: Outstanding units with exceptional skills in the meta. Must summons and excellent options for investment.
Tier 2: Not the best units but great units with powerful niches, though not game-changing.
Tier 3: Usable units who are okay in terms of strength, but face competition with better performing units.
Tier 4: Mediocre units who struggle in battle unless they are fully invested, and need more resources to be effective.
Tier 5: The worse of the worst, utterly outclassed by many stronger candidates. Not worth summoning.
Last but not least, this is just my opinion, so please don't be too harsh or judgmental. To each tier we go!
Tier 1
Legendary Robin (M) - He's still great as a support unit, although he's fallen off slightly due to the prevalence of Ploy 3. Nonetheless, it does not stop him from being the best Earth legendary on the list. Grand Strategy is still powerful as long as you position him correctly, and I heard that he performs well in Summoner Duels since you're out of Ploy's range from the start. Also, he grants Joint Unity which is decent.
Legendary Alear (M) - The latest Earth Legendary who's still in his prime, but I place him at borderline Tier 1 as he's not really a menace. Unconditional brave & built-in Scowl are great overall, but his Miracle effect can be difficult to trigger due to positioning. Without any support capabilities, he might age faster than most other units.
Tier 2
Legendary Seliph - This is a major example of zero-to-hero transformation, as Seliph got an insane refine back then. I had fun using him in AR-Offense and PvE game modes where he turned out to be a monster. He excels as a super-busted omni-tank thanks to Null-Counter Disrupt, damage-reduction, enemy phase brave and Miracle. However, his triumphant return only lasts for a while as more DR piercing and pre-combat damage become available.
Tier 3
Legendary Nanna - Back in her day, she was a menace because she can nullify damage reduction with her usual hits, but nowadays, not so much. Nanna struggles to retain her viability amidst the speed creep, and she can't take down some of the tanks we've got today. Even so, she still functions as a decent sword cavalry, albeit overshadowed in some ways.
Legendary Deirdre - Renowned for her formidable nuking capabilities and ability to nullify adaptive damage, Deirdre can sometimes face setbacks such as Null Follow-Up & Guard. Furthermore, her Miracle effect pales in comparison to Alear's, as she lacks full-HP restoration after triggering. Looks like she can be a useful candidate for Ploy 3 to counter Robin and his Grand Strategy though.
Legendary Alm - Despite receiving a refine, Alm kind of struggles to find his place in the current meta, now ruled by faster and more competent nukes. Sure he gets full DR-piercing from his preferred Special and has true damage, but his usage gets dwindled over time, so it's uncertain if he'll ever return to his former glory. Nonetheless, he remains as a serviceable unit.
Tier 4
Legendary Julia - Regrettably, a lesser version of her mother whose refine falls short of today's standards. Making her a mixed phase infantry nuke against dragons seems iffy to me, as dragons today have many ways to bypass her effectiveness, via Laguz Friend & Counter Roar. Even beyond this, she struggles offensively, and would slowly fall behind as we get more powerful alternatives to infantry mages.
Legendary Claude - It's very disheartening to see how the god-star has fallen tremendously, due to the diminishing impact of Fallen Star in the light of warping mechanics that circumvent its Gravity effect. Besides, his outdated weapon leaves him unreliable as a nuke, so I hope that he would receive a decent refine in the coming months to address his shortcomings.
Legendary Tiki (Young) - I considered putting her in Tier 5, but her preferred Save skill is what prevents her from plummeting. However, her weapon, even after refinement, is terrible, because it does not meet the standards of what a Save unit should have - damage reduction in some form. In today's meta where Saves are struggling to survive, this first manakete can hardly find any relevance.
Tier 5
Legendary Fae - This chicken's release left much to be desired, and her high Arena scoring doesn't compensate for her lackluster tanking capabilities. Even if she has Miracle, it's rendered moot as she remains vulnerable to being nuked today, especially with Guard and Scowl hindering her Special from triggering. In the battlefield, she's just a sitting duck waiting to be obliterated, and unless she gets a substantial refine, you would not want to deploy this unit.
Legendary Robin (F) - When you say that it's hard to be a flying dragon nowadays, I can undoubtedly agree that Grima is one of them. Her weapon falls short, even compared to Fae's, and while she can provide Guidance support, the question is: why choose her over so many better options? Even her refine, she's like a candle in the blazing sun of player phase units - so utterly outclassed that she deserves to be this low.
Legendary Ike - It's pretty obvious, isn't it? He's our first Legendary besides Fjorm, gifted for free, only to flop like any pathetic unit would do, after getting his "refine". At the same time, it saddens me because Ike is one of my favorite lords, and now that his monstrous Emblem emerges, there's no need for a sorry excuse of this unit. He struggles to kill and tank properly, and even with an Arcane weapon, he's transitioned to a generic sword unit with minimal impact. He's not merely lackluster, but a Legendary disappointment in its splendid grandeur.
Final Tier List:
That's all I have for this tier list. Let me know your thoughts down below, and be sure to stay tuned for more tier lists in the future!
